A friend of ours came up with the suggestion of having a chair lift installed, something which we had overlooked. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT!Įlderly and living in a two story house on the Gold Coast and using the stairs became somewhat of a challenge and it was decided that we would sell and move to a single story home. A previous time my disabled father was trapped outside because it broke at the bottom of the stairs. I was told as it was out of warranty, and they do not guarantee their work on out of warranty chairs, if they needed to come out again in a couple of months I’d be charged again. I was blamed for not using it regularly and explained I couldn’t use a broken chairlift, blamed for debris building up under the broken chair and told to trim overhanging trees (there are none), blamed for leaving the broken chair at the bottom of the chairlifft. I complained to multiple people about being charged again to fix the same problem. I let them know but I took 8 weeks to book in another call due to Mums not being in the house.Īnother call out and $165 and parts. Whilst Mum was in hospital it remained there.
I checked it later and it worked to get to the bottom of the stairs a couple of times then stopp. They came and said they couldn’t enter because I wasnt there. Called again to get it fixed saying I wouldn’t be there- gate was open. I assumed it was fixed and came a few days later to find it wasn’t working.

It stopped working and I called to repair the problem $165 plus parts. My 85 year old mother has a chairlift used regularly until she was admitted to hospital.
Therefore, to put your feet on the rest, your knees have to bend at a sharp angle, quite difficult for people with knee pain and/or limited movement. When travelling, the footrest is more or less in line with the seat. Low reaching is also required to lift the footrest when folding the chair so the steps are more accessible for others to use. ie: lower the hinged track, and bring the chair back down.
The reverse applies when I want to travel up the stairs. Lifting the hinged track also required me to stoop down low to pick it up - not easy with a bad back. Read more use after getting off the chair I have to send the chair back to a charging station several steps above, then raise the hinged section of track so the walkway is clear. In particular the significance of the lower end of the track needing to be hinged so it could be lifted clear of the walkway only became obvious after the install. However I'm not sure whether they didn't cover some important aspects or whether they spoke faster than I was hearing, causing me to miss things. The salesman and installer were pleasant and appeared to know the product well. The stairs terminate at an upper landing, and a lower landing/walkway. I have a recently installed Acorn stairlift.
